John Holland hails from Cleveland, OH, and when he was 18, realizing that he was about to be drafted into the Army, he enlisted in the Marine Corps for four years. While serving as an air traffic controller in Vietnam.

John has held many key roles within the VFW and Post 1. Jr Vice Commander, then Commander for 1993-94 and1995-96. In 1998 John became State Chaplain, . Since 2008, he has served as the National Military Service Chairman. During 2011 – 2012 John Holland was the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Chaplain. Additionally, he held various internal administrative roles at the State and National level.  John is proudest of being the National Military Service Chairman.
